Canadian Dental Care Plan

Your dental health is closely related to the health of your body. Poor oral hygiene can lead to various serious issues such as heart disease, complications with diabetes, and many more and this can affect your quality of life. Good oral hygiene means more than just having a bright and beautiful smile; it also means good overall health!

Artis Dental Centre believes that everyone should have a good smile and a healthier life. The Canadian Dental Care Plan New Westminster (CDCP) is here to help you in that regard!

Who Can Benefit from the Canadian Dental Care Plan?

The CDCP is available to certain groups of Canadians, including:

  • Seniors aged 65 and older
  • Children under 18
  • Adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit for 2023

To qualify, you also need to meet these requirements:

  • No dental insurance
  • Your family’s adjusted net income is below $90,000
  • You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes
  • You filed your taxes last year

Make sure you check these requirements before applying for CDCP!

What If I Already Have Dental Insurance?

Even if you are covered by a government program (such as provincial or federal), you may still be eligible to use the CDCP. The two can work together to derive maximum benefit from your coverage without duplicating services.

How Much Does the CDCP Cover?

The amount CDCP covers depends on your household’s income. Here’s a quick overview:

Adjusted Household Net Income How Much the CDCP has coverage How much you will pay
Less than $70,000 100% of qualified oral health care service costs will be paid at the CDCP-established rates. You pay nothing (unless your dentist charges extra)
$70,000 – $79,999 60% of qualified oral health care service costs will be paid at the CDCP-established rates. You pay 40%, plus any extra charges
$80,000 – $89,999 40% of qualified oral health care service costs will be paid at the CDCP-established rates. You pay 60%, plus any extra charges

Extra Costs You Might Need to Pay

You may have additional costs if:

  • Your dentist charges more than the CDCP allows
  • You agree to treatments that aren’t covered by the plan

Before starting any treatment, make sure to talk with your CDCP dentist near you to understand any costs you may need to pay.

How to Apply for the CDCP?

Applying is an easy and simple process! Here’s how:

  • Submit your application through Health Canada.
  • Once accepted, you’ll get a welcome package within three months.
  • The package will include your insurance details, the start date of your benefits, and a membership card.

Be sure to double-check all your details to avoid any delays in the process.

Special Care for People With Disabilities

Oral health can be more challenging for those with disabilities. The CDCP offers flexible coverage to meet these unique needs.

At Artis Dental Centre, we pride ourselves on providing inclusive care for every patient. Our team ensures each person receives quality care that’s tailored to their specific oral needs.

Kids’ Dental Health is a Top Priority

Poor oral health due to cavities and other oral problems of a child can lead to missing school and serious health problems if not treated.

Children should be taken to a dentist for routine examination as early as three years of age. Services such as fluoride applications and tooth sealants keep cavities at bay and keep their smiles healthy.

At Artis Dental Centre, we focus on preventive care to help children grow up with healthy, happy smiles!

Yes, the plan helps eligible seniors access inexpensive dental care. It’s designed to support older Canadians in maintaining healthy teeth and gums for a brighter smile during their golden years.

The CDCP is mainly for those without dental insurance, but if you have private coverage, the two can work together. The Canadian Dental Care Plan can help cover extra costs that your Canadian dental insurance doesn’t fully pay for.
